AssetGen Data Center Planner

Ratings:

Visio diagrams help to document plan and communicate changes in data centers and IT environments - but they take time and expertise to produce. AssetGen Planner gathers infrastructure data from the AssetGen database and produces, or updates, Visio diagrams with just a few clicks. These diagrams have device shape data automatically embedded, with hyperlinks back into the main AssetGen intranet applications.

Floor plans made easy
AssetGen Planner creates a top down floor plan of selected racks within a few seconds, which can be overlaid and positioned on a backgrond floor grid. Rack capacity data such as amounts of space, power and free network ports are automatically combined with rack function, ownership, network side, etc. The data graphics feature of Visio 2007 can then display capacity data - see our Visio demo for the technique. The update feature compares and updates existing floor plans with the latest AssetGen data and highlights changes.

Rack Diagrams - within seconds
Producing a rack layout takes a few seconds - we create the Visio diagram, add and position the devices in the rack, embed any device data, and insert hyperlinks back to AssetGen in case you need more information on any component.  Select a rack, press draw - diagram produced.

But, what if you want lots of rack diagrams produced? A set for every site, just the racks looked after by networks, or racks that haven't been audited for months? AssetGen Planner gives you the power to filter on rack details and produce a single Visio diagram with all the racks you want; all in a consistent format, with the latest data. Plus the benefit of small file sizes, so they are easy to send to colleagues.

Topology Diagrams
A topology diagram shows the paths and dependencies to help understand complex networks, storage systems, cable runs and so on. AssetGen Planner has a powerful and flexible user interface that lets users select the scope, depth and type of devices to put on a Visio topology diagram, to save you having to:

  • Inventory the equipment on the sites, rooms or individual devices
  • Embed technical and business data into device shapes
  • Trace the connectivity between devices
  • Insert connectors between all the shapes with IP address, port names etc.

If you're happy with a particular format you can save it as a template and re-use the settings to produce consistent topology diagrams of every location. Download our example files to understand more.
