Information Technology Infrastructure Library

Developed by the UK Office for Government Commerce, the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)* outlines best practices in the management of IT service processes. ITIL is used to align IT services with the current and future needs of businesses and customers, improve the quality of IT services, and reduce the long-term cost of service provisioning. Although ITIL first gained popularity in Europe and Canada, interest is growing steadily in the U.S. and in Asia.

Visio 2007 Professional and ITIL

Visio is an important tool for implementing ITIL. A sampling of ITIL-related diagram types supported by Visio includes basic and cross-functional flowcharts, workflows, fault trees, input-process-output models, and network diagrams. Visio 2007 also includes a new ITIL template specifically for diagramming ITIL help desk processes.
